In accessory for narrating the story, the GM also plays the non-player characters or "NPCs" for simple terms. NPCs can be anyone the player-characters meet up with. They could cost from flower and producing in the village towards the rich merchant who is hiring the party, on the villains browsing the technique of victory. I judge fairly of my GMs on how well they portray the non-combat NPCs. Anyone can sic a bunch of bad guys on the guitar player characters and roll combat - that's easy. It's in the quiet moments like talking to the blacksmith when first you ride into town that paints pictures for that mind's eye and spins an enjoyable story.
